Post PS1 Jam Update
This was my first attempt at making a 3D game, and I think that was a mistake to make during a game jam. As a solo developer, I felt overwhelmed by the amount of work I had to do and everything I needed to learn. I ended up cutting a lot of the features I had in mind and audio in its entirety. I was not available to participate in this jam for the entire duration, so there was an even greater time crunch.
I learned four main things from this project. First, 3D modeling was easier and more fun than I expected, and the only really challenging part was creating good-looking materials to use on the models. Second, movement, especially rotation, is much more complicated in 3D. This seems obvious, but I underestimated how much more it would be compared to 2D. Third, focus on developing the minimum viable product first before adding additional features. Doing it that way can make it harder to add on later, but in a project like this, there are a significant number of features that were either partially implemented and barely used or never implemented at all. Lastly, make at least a demo playable in the browser because it makes it easier for people to rate your game and give you feedback.
You may have noticed that there is a version playable in the browser now, and that is because I plan to continue developing this project. As I said, I brainstormed and partially implemented several features that I wanted to put in this game. Besides that, sounds would add a lot to even a simple game like this. I doubt that I will implement everything I have in mind, but over the coming weeks, I hope to make a game closer to what I had in mind originally. More updates will (hopefully) come soon.
